Louisville 1/2 Marathon Race Day

I DID IT! I was nervous and couldn’t really sleep much Saturday night thinking about the race on Sunday morning. I kept thinking wether my knees were going to hold up, and if I was going to be able to keep going with out stopping. Sunday morning finally came and off I went with my running gear in place. Chris was kind enough to drive Lori and my self over to the race so we didn’t have to worry about finding a place to park, he was also there to take some pics and video of the start….I know he’s sweet!

The race started about 15 minutes late and it was COLD. My hands were freezing, but I was off to a good start. The only thing that was bothering me was the timing chip. They gave us these ghetto timing chips!!! They were these rough velcro things that strap around the heel/ankle. Right when I put it on I was thinking it was probably going to end up hurting me….and I was sooo right! I could feel it hurting my ankle but I was not about to stop and mess with it, I just kept going. After the race I look at the back of my heel and find that the thing took off a chunk of skin…OUCH! It still hurts. Maybe next year they’ll invest on the ones that tie on your shoe lace, talk about unnecessary injury!

My personal goals were to run the entire thing with out stopping and also I was going for a time race of 2:10. I did good at the running the entire time, I just tried to put my legs on autopilot and keep going and going! I did however miss my goal time by a 1 minute and 43 secs :( Oh well, maybe next time. The race started and ended at the water tower, can I tell you that towards the finish I have never in my life been so happy to see the water tower!

The post race soreness has been rough! Sunday and Monday my knees hurt so bad, my legs and back felt so stiff! I felt I could have shed a tear every time I had to up and down some stairs!…and yes I live on the second floor. :( I’m doing much better now though. :) I knew going into it that it would kick my butt b/c my training wasn’t the best, but I’m just glad I did it and that it’s over!

Check out my medal, I really like the tree with the Louisville symbol for leaves.
