Crazy Yoga Class

Thursday night I decided to go to a yoga class at the gym.  I like doing yoga because it releases built up tension in my neck and shoulders.  On the schedule it said that it was for levels 2 and 3 but I didn’t think it would be anything too crazy…..little did I know!  This yoga class was intense! It wasn’t hot yoga but the temp in the room was pretty warm.

Right from the start we started doing a series of poses that were more difficult than what I’m used to.  The instructor was using the sanskrit names for the poses rather than the english names….I promise you it almost sounded like she was speaking in tongues! 🙂 I was trying to keep up and trying not to laugh b/c I felt so awkward.

She kept talking about the “unuarawanda”…I’m sure I didn’t spell that right, apparently the unuarawanda is like your core or stomach or something. I figured that b/c she kept pointing to the stomach region and telling us to hold it in.

The pic above is one of the poses we did in class…..or I should say others did in class b/c I was just chillin’ on my mat while they were doing this!  I just found out that it’s called the “plow pose”.  We also did this one thing where we were laying on the front of our legs holding our selves up with our arms, I think that’s called cobra, from this position we were suppose to swing our legs through underneath us and end up in a sitting position….I still can’t figure out how that lady did that. I looked like a big goof walking my legs around b/c that swing thing just was not happening!  There were also a couple of poses where our hands were supposed to be the only thing holding us up off the floor…..yea, I couldn’t do those either.

Well, my crazy yoga class was a heck of a workout! My body is sore and I’m glad I went.  I’m not sure I’ll be going back to it anytime soon, I think I need to stick to my beginner yoga level for a while!  Any body ever had a crazy yoga class experience? I would love to hear about it.

Good Times On The Tennis Court

On Saturday I played tennis for the firs time ever! I thought I would be missing every ball that came my way, but I actually was able to hit quite a few. Chris was patient enough to show me how the game goes, how to hold the racket, and how to swing.  I had a good time and not to mention a pretty good workout.  It was my sisters first time also, I’m sure watching us play together was a sight to see! Then we just had to finish the night off with some PIZZA!  We were all hungry after running around after that little yellow ball for over two hours.

Stinkin’ Shin Splints!

I was doing so good going to the gym and working out and then all of a sudden I started getting shin splints! How frustrating!  I took a break for like three weeks and it’s still sticking around. I’ve done little workouts this week like walk/run intervals, or just walking around the park. Yesterday I made it through 1 whole mile! Yey! It hurt but I just kept running and after a while it felt better….maybe b/c the muscles had warmed up or something.

I’ve been bummed b/c I really like to go to Kickboxing class on thursdays and that just hasn’t happened for like the past month.  I was reading up on shin splints on the handy dandy world wide web, I read that having flat feet can put more strain on the muscles and therefore make you more susceptible to it…..yep, that’s me! Having some pancake flat feet has been my life long issue.

I even wore little orthopedic boots when I was a little girl….no, not the ones with the big cable things on the side of the legs! Those were just funky, thank you Jesus I didn’t need those! I’ve dealt with leg pain and pain on my feet since I was little, but I’m thankful to God that he has given me legs and feet that work!

For a second I thought I needed to get new tennis shoes, but I was inspecting my tennis shoes and they don’t look worn out or nothing. I’m planning to go to this running store where they do some sort of test on how you run and tell you what type of shoes are best for your feet.  Maybe they can suggest a good insert or tell me if maybe I need new sneakers.

If there is anybody out there that has any suggestions for me by all means help a sister out!

Nada From Pyro!

This was clearly not the winning ticket! 😦 Pyro did not pull through and came in 9th place.

But hey I still won $15 bucks from a shared bet on Big Brown!

I must say the win was bittersweet b/c of what happened to Eight Belles….that was so sad.

Did anyone else win the big bucks like my self?

Country Fried Steak

On Saturday Chris and I had planned to grill out over at my sisters place while they were out of town….yes, she knew we were coming! We were excited, we had our steaks marinading and our potatoes baking.  Chris went outside ready to get the grill going and two hours later the grill still wouldn’t get going! The weather was really windy and I guess it just kept blowing out the gas grill.  We were so frustrated that after so long we had to bust out with the pan and cook them on the STOVE!!!! not even the same!!!

The crazy and most frustrating thing is that this is the second time this has happened to us at their place. Last time we had everything ready and then we realized the grill was out of gas. This time we made sure it had gas but the thing just kept blowing out on us.  I guess gas grills can be unpredictable! either that or it just doesn’t like us.

It’s Derby Time!

Louisville, Kentucky is most famous for the Kentucky Derby.  Every year the celebration lasts for weeks.  It begins with thunder over Louisville, which is of the biggest fireworks shows in the country, and finally ends on Derby day.  This saturday is Derby day, the celebration leading to this day has been in full swing for weeks.  It’s crazy expensive to actually get to go to the Derby, you have to know the right people and also be willing to pay the big bucks for some tickets.

Most of the local people go down to the track on thursday before the Derby.  This past Thursday was my first time ever to actually get to go down to the track and experience the Churchill Downs horse racing. My boss gave a couple of us tickets and let us leave early to go down.  It was a lot of fun and very cool to experience this for the first time even though I’ve lived in Louisville since I was 9.  Here are some pics I wanted to share:

The best part is that I WON! My friends Lori’s last name is Foster and one of the horses racing was called FOSTER….so of course we had to bet on it to win, and it did! We were so excited. check out the winning ticket:

Well, I sure didn’t win the big bucks! They pay out on my 2 dollar bet was $3.80! However cheering for the winning horse was very exciting.

Out in the Paddock where they walk the horses you can see them up close.

I did see one famous guy….Terry Bradshaw! Well, I didn’t spot him out but my friend Lori did.

He’s the one in the suit and the cowboy hat.

I also got to see my Derby horse PYRO!!!!! He is the horse I picked for the Derby.  By the time I realized it was him this was the only booty shot I could get Lori to take….

Maybe it is significant of the fact that this what all the other horses will be seeing come race time!! Yea Yea!

GO PYRO! Show me what you got!
